Scotch on the rocks
Feb. 5th, 2010 08:34 pmThe New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust rescued the Scotch that Shackleton and his crew left buried beneath the expedition hut when they hightailed it out of Antarctica ahead of the winter ice in 1909. Three crates of Scotch whisky, to be precise, plus two bonus crates of brandy.
At least one of the bottles is broken, a fact given away by the aroma of the surrounding ice. But there's still ample hope -- as they moved the crates, the rescuers heard liquid inside.
I raise a glass to Bruce Townley for the link. Cheers!
