It's time to play...

Cheese or Font?

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pnh and Making Light for bringing this delight to my attention. I just may have to link to it from the PROmote site. :-)

[livejournal.com profile] buttonlass, I bet you'd score really high.

I wonder if the game will lead to a bunch of font designers naming their creations after various cheeses. Some of those names should already be fonts.

The stats are fun. Of course, what I really want are links to each of the names so players can learn more about the cheeses and the fonts than just their names. Yeah, I know, that's what Google is for.... (Who, me? Lazy? Ah, yup.)

I see your "Cheese or Font?" and raise you "Steak House or Gay Bar?"

Ok. I made it three names before the game was incorrect. Laban is also a middle eastern yogurt cheese. It may also be a font but it's definitely a cheese.:)

Good grief. I didn't know what kind of cheese Laban is, but I definitely recognize it as a cheese name.

Noted typographer John D. Berry pointed out that "too many of the font names are obscure -- not historic-obscure, which I could handle, but recent-&-trivial-obscure."

I grokked onto that after Goggling a few of the font names to see what they looked like. Only one of about five of them showed up on what I would think of as a professional site.

It's all too bad, as the game is amusing. Or could be, if it were done well.

Oh I'm still highly amused.:) I love the game of is it a cheese name or is it (whatever). Love.

I automatically read the name of the game to the tune of "Wheel ... Of ... Fish!"
