All-American Fourth
Jul. 4th, 2013 08:28 pmI invited myself over to
debgeisler and
benveniste's for the 4th of July. It wasn't that presumptuous; I've spent a couple of previous Independence Days hanging out in the comfort of their home and company. Not last year, but the year before that...and/or the year before that...twice, maybe three times. It's always good.
"We must really love you," Deb announced when I got here. Indeed they do: they made their utterly splendid grape leaves for dinner. Grape leaves, tzatziki, tabouli...omg, the tabouli!...pita and hummus. Yummmmmm. Deb's now working on prepping fruit and pound cake for the chocolate fondue we're having for dessert. That's a first here, thanks to a Reddit gift exchange that resulted in an electric fondue pot being delivered a few days back.
Wonderful company, central air, the Boston Pops on TV with fireworks to follow, and a holiday that's truly a holiday for me this year. Huzzah!
Tomorrow's menu? Cheese fondue and fresh strawberry ice cream. Life is good.
