Jim Young is gone. His memory will always, always be a blessing.

Memorial Service information will be posted when arrangements are made. The early word is that it's most likely going to be the end of next week in Minneapolis. I'm hosting the NESFA Other Meeting on Sunday, June 24th, and have no idea whether or not I'll be able to be in Minneapolis in person. I'll obviously be there in spirit.

Sympathy to Jim's brother Denny, his niece Amy, the entire Young family, and science fiction fandom, especially Minneapolis fandom. Added sympathy to my dear, dear friends and loved ones Fred Levy Haskell, Ken Fletcher, and Nate Bucklin. They and Frank Stodolka (who I never really got to know) were Minn-StF's Floundering Fathers along with Jim.

Time is supposed to keep everything from happening all at once. I'm used to people I know sharing birthdays, or having birthdays in close proximity to each other (Here's looking at you, [livejournal.com profile] debgeisler and [livejournal.com profile] benveniste, and you [livejournal.com profile] benyalow and Tom Whitmore.)

In the last 30 hours, I've learned of the deaths of four people who were known, loved, and cared for by people I love and care for. Two of them, no, three of those deaths directly affect me, Jim Young's by far the strongest though the funeral I'm most likely to attend is in Brookline on Thursday afternoon. (Non-fannish, for fannish readers who might worry.)

Shared birthdays are a delight. Shared death days not so much, dammit.
