I found the following link thanks to PNH's Sidelights over on Making Light. It will warm [livejournal.com profile] kaffyr's heart and several of [livejournal.com profile] debgeisler's students will likely get a kick out of it, too:

The best journalism job want ad ever.

Forbes sez it's real, albeit in Dan Bigman's "Important if True" blog. Be sure to read the comment about Hunter S. Thompson's 1958 letter to the Vancouver Sun, too. It's a classic.

Unsurprisingly, the post is making the rounds. I found a couple more links back to A Few Tasteful Snaps, journalist Glen McGregor's personal blog. I liked the comments there as well.

File 770 has already published Murray Moore's report on last night's memorial service for Mike Glicksohn.

Reading it quickly had me laughing. How very fitting. Murray reports that Mike didn't ask for a memorial service, that Susan Manchester wasn't sure he would have liked it very much. I'm positive he would have loved the stories and the ringing laughter I'm sure filled the sanctuary.

Well done, Murray. Thanks also to Mike Glyer for its quick publication. Recommended, even if you didn't know Mike (Glicksohn, that is. I'm used to an abundance of Davids, but it's taken Mike's death to remind me about just how many wonderful Mikes I know. Anderson, Benveniste. Glicksohn. Glyer. And that's just off the very top of my sleep-deprived head).

I wasn't able to be at the memorial service. As it was starting, I raised a glass to Mike. A glass bheer bottle, in my case. I reached into the fridge for one of my default brews: Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale. But my hand turned up one last bottle of Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale instead. Ah, yes. That was perfect for the occasion. The last time I had one was Wednesday, November 17, 2010, when I shared a bottle with Randy Byers here at Toad Woods the night before we drove to the first SFContario. That was two nights before the last time I saw Mike.

RIP Mike. Here's hoping I do your memory honor.
