...really wants in. Instead of scratching again at the patio door screen, tonight it climbed up the door off the mudroom. When I flipped on the light in response to the animal sounds, the raccoon was staring at me face-to-face through the 9-pane window in the door.

It wasn't startled and didn't jump down in response to my voice and whack on the glass, either. Instead, in climbed back down and ambled its way along the deck and into the dark.

In other, less entertaining news, I inadvertently drove the right front wheel of my car off the road near Fanhihall down in Yorktown Heights, NY last Thursday night. There's no shoulder and the tiny, muddy ditch is filled with rocks. Between the sharp edge of the pavement and the rocks, my car suffered a fair bit of damage. I'll find out how much on Tuesday afternoon when the insurance estimator comes out. I tried having just the broken windshield washer fluid tank replaced in New York on Saturday, but it seems that there are also pumps and a wiring harness involved.

There's also cosmetic damage to the low-slung bumper cover. I don't care so much about that -- the other side of the bumper cover and the bottom left corner trim were already a mess from previous encounters with Chicago ice and a concrete wall in a parking lot. But I'll see what the estimator says and figure out what to do from there. In my opinion, the windshield washer tank is a safety item and has to be replaced.

So life goes. Rocky at times, but no physical injuries were involved, and even the damage to the car is on the minor end of the scale.
