Driveway update: visual signs of progress
Jun. 21st, 2006 09:18 amI went out to inspect the driveway this morning following several rainshowers and one large downpour, complete with pea-sized hail. There's a bit of washed-out dirt spread across the bottom of the drive, but far less than I was expecting. Even better, there's only one small spot stretching about 30 feet along the side that shows erosion at all, and only a tiny bit at that.
This is before the grass seed has had a chance to sprout, without straw, hay, or any erosion mat covering in place.
I know better than to think this is anything more than a single step in the right direction. The weather forecast shows more rain and thunderstorms possible tomorrow, and every day after that for the next week. That small spot of erosion will need constant filling-in to keep it from becoming a larger and larger spot, and harsh rain won't do sprouting seed much good either.
But this is so much better than the mud-slide I envisioned! There's 10 minutes of fill-in work to do, not two hours or more. And the rain has left the soil uniformly damp, which will help see all of the seed through the heat of the day, not just the first 100 feet or so that my hose reaches. Still to come: soaker hose shopping, and some form of covering, too. But first there's a work project to complete, and Phone Repair Guy to wait for.
