Five Frogs
Jul. 21st, 2005 06:41 pmI spotted five live frogs in my pond a few minutes ago. One even climbed onto a lily pad while I was watching, then proceeded to hang out there. The camera was indoors, of course. And it really doesn't zoom enough for the task.
Five frogs, five large fish. Well, medium-sized, but bigger than they were last year. Also bigger than they were last year -- by a long shot -- are 18 small fish, all at least one-year old. I've only spotted 3 teenie tiny fish, but I'm betting there are more. They're still hard to see, especially across the pond.
The mosquitoes seem to have vanished. We're probably just between hatchings, but I was out for most of a half-hour without a single bite or annoying buzz. Nice, and I don't think it was just birthday luck.
Many thanks to all who sent and posted greetings; they added much to my enjoyment of the day.
Best line so far? My sister referring to me as "Missy Crone"! Loved that. Must remember it.
Yes, my user icon du jour also shows a piece of my pond. Only not today -- about a week ago instead. While that lily is long gone, there are more lily buds, and therefore more blossoms to come. I hope the same proves true for my life in the months and years ahead. It already seems so -- the pickerel rush that Susan gifted me with is blooming, and the horsetail I bought at the same time has several tall, sturdy stalks, so I'm thinking it might well make it through the harsh months of winter when they return.
