I arrived at [livejournal.com profile] dlacey's home in London roughly 8 hours and 45 minutes after leaving Wales. The drive was nice for the first couple of hours, and involved too much rain from then on. So much for hoping to punch my way through it. It was a good trip despite the weather. Something about good music, the newest thanks to [livejournal.com profile] fredcritter turning me onto Josh White, The Elektra Years. Tasty, tasty. ("Jelly, Jelly.") The added bonus of seeing and staying with Diane made for a very nice end to the day.

Sleep now. And grieve for [livejournal.com profile] marsgov and his family as they mourn the loss of his son Yehuda. Yet also celebrate [livejournal.com profile] smofbabe's successful surgery and do my best to calmly await the biopsy report, and to see if the vocal cord paralysis is greatly improved or even gone all together. Hope for a good prognosis for a friend WINOLJ who was recently diagnosed with cancer of the uterus. Hope, too, for a job offer to be made to another friend WINOLJ. I did my best to give what I hope was an excellent reference regarding that yesterday. (Note to self: don't automatically answer ringing phone when woken while napping after staying up all night. One could need to be coherent and competent.)

There's more, of course. There always is. This weekend brings the memory of a joyful, excellent dinner at a table filled with friends and loved ones during last year's OryCon, then picking up a voice mail message after dinner and thereby learning of KIM Campbell's death that day. Emotional whiplash. Mourning. Wishing I could be there this year, to layer and help buffer that memory with new and happier ones linked to that convention. Still struggling with the new financial paradigm, and how to make it work for me in ways the old one never could.

London to Lansing in the morning. Then Battle Creek at night, before I sleep again.

(For those who don't know this about me: I love road trips. Big time. Even when they come with too much rain. Even when my heart is someplace else, though that part's harder.)
