...and an alien thing, too. The latter was not planned. I'll post a picture after it's made its debut at tomorrow's feast.

Even Neil Gaiman knows that you don't need pecans for cranberry sauce, that there's value in keeping things simple. Fitzgeralds...at least those of my generation...just didn't get the simple gene. I'm trying to remember if I've seen any evidence of its existence anywhere in the family line.

For the record, all of the cranberry sauce I've made previously has been fine and delicious...without pecans. Or tangerine peel. Or cinnamon, for that matter.

What *is* in your sauce???

I'm trying one with rum, candied ginger and cranberries.

Plus we have plain for those who prefer that sort of thing.

Oh, my. Yours sounds splendid. I normally don't care for candied ginger, but I'll bet it's fabulous with cranberries and rum.

Mine will have cranberries, sugar, orange pineapple juice, tangerine peel, pecans, and perhaps some cinnamon. It could easily have the secret alien ingredient, too, but then the alien wouldn't be pristine, so I think it will be cranberry sauce sans alien.

I am tired out. I almost thought it said, "you don't need a permit for cranberry sauce."

More seriously, I never knew that pecans were a common ingredient.

Grin.

If I put the alien in it, I'd probably need a permit for that.

(See my reply to [livejournal.com profile] mizzlaurajean for further obscure alien references, or just wait until I post the picture later this weekend.

Hope so. Better yet, you and Mike will be able to eat it if you choose.

I seem to be the only one who likes minced jalapeƱos in it. Yours sounds great too.

Yay for alien things.

Love you.

That sounds exciting! I'm dining with people who don't like whole-berry cranberry sauce, so I'll have to make do with the jelly that comes in a can. However, I'm bringing bagna cauda, so that will be fun, and there will be a deep-fried turkey, which I've never had.

IMAO, pecans are necessary only for Pecan Pie (which is, itself, Necessary at least twice during The Holiday Season), pralines, and in Fancy Mixed Nuts, though they'd probably go well with cranberry sauce. You have, however, reminded me of something I've been missing for years -- black walnuts (especially on rum-balls), though digging out little bits of the meat with a nut-pick, beforehand, was not quite a favorite Holiday Task, despite the vigorous fun of trying to get the shells open.

I hope you (and everyone else) over-ate (but not too seriously) for this Feast, and generally enjoyed the Festive Day.
