Milo in Autumn, on Rock

Having Milo visit provided the welcome motivation to return to Conant Brook Dam, site of several enjoyable hours of walking together in early summer. Now it's autumn, and the place is a whole new color of gorgeous. Several colors, actually. All in autumn tones. It was so pretty on Saturday that I remembered to take along my point'n'shoot digital camera on Sunday. Click through on either snapshot for 18 more pictures from that day's walk.

Edited to add two more pictures to the count -- one shows the top of the dam as we set out, the other is of Milo, of course.

If only Milo could tell us. I have a cold, alas, so it really doesn't smell like autumn the way I expect it would if only my sniffer were working.

I have a great series of 7 pictures of Milo sitting on a rock. He's not looking into the camera in a single shot. His head starts out to the sharp right. It then comes in a bit forward but still to the right, then left, right, left, left, right. He must have done that 30 or 40 times during the minute or two he sat there for me. Gotta look! Gotta look! Gotta see everything. Sniff! Sniff!

Is Milo a Jack Russell Terrier? (aka Jack Russell Terrorist?)

Milo is a mix of Jack Russell Terrier, Fox Terrier, and Basenji. The combination makes for one darned interesting dog.

Milo is much less shaggy than I imagined. He looks like a fine walking companion. The fall colours are amazing as is the scenery.

Milo is fine, fine dog, albeit one who isn't the best about walking on a leash. That makes Conant Brook Dam a much better place to walk than along Monson, McBride, or Mt Hitchcock Roads. I keep him on leash, albeit a 20-foot model that gives him lots of wandering room. There are times when it's fine to drop the leash and just let it drag along the ground, but Milo take off like a Harrier Jet at the sight of a squirrel or other small creature.

Milo is delightfully well-behaved and well-mannered indoors, and we do well on our walks at the dam.

Shiva slammed into the sliding glass door yesterday because there were four squirrels on the porch and he just couldn't resist.

Poor Shiva. It's hard with the internal impulse controls fail and you run into the external ones instead.
