A House of a Different Color

gerisullivanThe Zeppelin Hanger is looking more itself than ever this week, as the painters are just a short day short of finishing their work. If it doesn't rain tomorrow, they'll finish then. If it does, well, they'll come back when it stops raining.
I'm afraid I didn't take any pictures of the painting in progress; with luck, I'll make time for some "after" shots and figure out how to post them. Benjamin Moore has a color viewer, but none of the houses really give the effect all that well. Consider yourself warned; it's far more muted than anyone who knows me might expect. The siding is Adagio, a light-to-medium grey that picks up on the lightest tone in the shingles on the new roof.

Anyway, back to the paint colors. The trim is Evening Sky, a deep blue with lots of grey in it. Only the windows and door frames are the trim color; the "edges" of the house are also in Adagio, on the advice of the painter. It helps the house look bigger, less boxy. I'm also hoping it helps keep costs closer to the bottom end of the estimate rather than the top end. The doors and shutters are Classic Burgandy, from the ready-mix line. I'm painting the shutters myself, both to help keep costs down, and to have at least some of my own touch on the house. I'll also paint the decorative parts of the garage doors. They're the standard "16 raised panel" sort; the whole thing is Adagio now; I plan to paint the panels with the Burgandy, then do artsy-fartsy texture painting over that with the Adagio and Evening Sky. Really simple artsy-fartsy painting that is....
I shouldn't be quite so surprised by how much better the house looks with a couple coats of fresh paint. Next on the Toad Woods Maintenance and Improvement List: Deal with eroding driveway, have water treatment system installed. In my Copious Free Time, obviously. Right.
