The world I live in
Aug. 23rd, 2008 05:24 pmThe world I live in is far, far different than anything I thought or expected it might be when I was growing up. Today's proof of that is that a dragonfly just spent most of a minute perched on the edge of my laptop screen.
I'm sitting on my back deck, working on a client project, with music I like in the background and the squirrels raising a racket in the trees. The entire notion that I could make what passes for a living under such idyllic circumstances was well beyond my childhood comprehension.
This isn't my everyday existence. But it is my existence this afternoon, and that is a fine thing, indeed.
One CD ended and I'm now on to the next. And so it will be with work and everything else.

Date: 2008-08-24 12:41 am (UTC)I'm quite honestly not sure what sort of world I thought I'd be living in when I grew up, although I'm quite sure computers didn't figure in my personal space. Typewriters and copy machines did, though. So it's a change in degree, I think.
I've had similar wonderful moments on our upper terrace, with the garden out there, and a laptop in front of me. But we've hit a hot humid spell, and I am much happier to look at nature through the windows in the front office, where I can literally overlook the horrific weeding job that awaits when fall finally sets in.

Date: 2008-08-24 11:40 pm (UTC)I used to see feral cats, rabbits, and occasional other small wildlife, but the coyotes came down the green ribbon around the branch and ate them. The coyotes have moved on; I hope our little wildlife will come back.
