To open or not to open...

It seems a tad prosaic, but one of the things I'm enjoying about unpacking is reading the labels on each box. Many are utterly straightforward, in unexpected ways. "Lorraine's Very Dead Fiddle"..."Punk Unicorn"...yep; these are Geri boxes. The dishpack labeled "Candlewick and Stemware professionally packed by GFS and KEC" brings back warm memories of an afternoon spent packing followed by an outing to drop KEC off at the Heart of the Beast theatre.

Then I ran across a box here in my office, and I can't decide whether it's more delicious to unpack it, or if I should simply leave it as is. The destination, appropriately enough, is "Office." The contents are listed as "God knows."

It's not my handwriting; it looks like Jeff's. Which means whatever is inside is from end-game packing, those last couple of chaotic days. Which could mean there's really important stuff inside. What's more likely is that it will be a box full of stuff I want but have *no* idea what to do with. In which case, I really ought to go for the amusement value of leaving the box sealed shut.

I'm still on a free account, so no polls (and no clicky things) here. If I do decide to open the box (which I probably will...eventually), I'll do my best to post what I find inside.

I had a box once labelled, "found under couch."

If you hear any meowing from the box, don't open it, just call Schrodinger and tell him you found his cat.

Oh, I fell over real bad when I read that.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, sir.

The best labels ever on my boxes dated from when a couple of fans helped out. My favorite (without looking it up): "Books that have been read, at least that's what I've been told."

If your house is anything like mine, that last box will contain at least some post-its and a postcard, possibly from the fridge. Pens are quite popular, too.

My point being, of course, that it's good to have such reminders of friends who helped out.

Boxes, why did it have to be boxes...

In my next to last move (from Ken & Giovanna's place -formerly Sue Grandys' place on Lyndale & 35th- to my present place at faboo Linden Hills) I ran across a box labled "Rocks". I decided I *really* need to get rid of some of my stuff. (I went out a couple of nights later and left them in the planters scattered around my neighborhood. It's rather wonderful when spring comes - all of a sudden these "old friends" show up again...

I think I remember labelling at least one box that way.

But do you remember what you put inside?!?!?

(And if you tell me "an 11-page reply to your first Minneapazine," I shall open it immediately.)
