I'm picking it up from [livejournal.com profile] replyhazy:

20 Years Ago, I...
1) Received Hyphen 37 in the mail. Walt Willis responded to my LoC,
which was how our friendship started
2) Had been divorced for 5 years
3) Had the best boss of my corporate career. Thanks, Mike Anderson! You rock.

15 Years Ago, I...
1) Ran the Fan Lounge and the Minneapolis in '73 Suite at Magicon
2) Welcomed Walter and Madeleine Willis and James White to Toad Hall for the
ReinCONation festivities following MagiCon
3) Made considerably more in my 2-year old business than I ever had while employed

10 Years Ago, I...
1) Signed on with the High-Res Minicon committee
2) Published Idea #11 with "Ashes, Dust, 9 Electric Razors" inside
3) Began a surprising romance with [livejournal.com profile] benyalow, starting with a conversation
in the Toad Hall Champion Mimeo Center and Frog Preserve. (See #2)

5 Years Ago, I...
1) Headed the Hospitality Division for ConJose
2) Flew enough to earn Gold status on NWA
3) Bought a pearl necklace with [livejournal.com profile] elaine_brennan

2 Years Ago, I...
1) Had the worst year in business since starting it in 1990
2) Welcomed [livejournal.com profile] kipw, [livejournal.com profile] malibrarian, and the irrepressible Sarah to Massachusetts by
inadvertently passing on a violent intestinal bug during my first visit to help them unpack
3) Swam with bats at Fanhihall

1 Year Ago, I...
1) Found a hospice and moved my mother to it when it became necessary to do so.
Knew I'd done enough for her for the first time in my life. Enough and then some.
3) Helped my sister through hip replacement surgery
2) Had the second best year in business since starting it in 1990

So far this year, I've...
1) Won a Hugo Award (!)
2) Had nearly as many days with guests staying here at Toad Woods as I've had nights away
3) Been chairing Smofcon 25

Yesterday, I...
1) Had a good day
2) Got to bed Way Too Late
3) Received more feedback that my "eat well/move more" approach to life is continuing to serve me well

Today, I...
1) Finished a demanding 20-page layout
2) Walked to the post office and mailed 3 things that will likely be a
pleasure for at least 6 people in three different states
3) Still need to get a lot more work done!

Tomorrow, I'll...
1) Do my damnedest to take my car in for an oil change and wheel alignment
2) Run other errands that need running
3) Continue making progress on my overloaded "Now & ASAP" list

My favorite part of this meme was realizing it's the 20th anniversary year of being welcomed into the lifelong circle of friends who founded Irish Fandom and never stopped inviting people in to share their lives and amusements.

I am not really big on memes, but this one is intriguing. But then again, I have always been interested in history (as you no doubt know).

Now I don't participate in memes, but if I did, here's what I might have written (holding it to one response per category).

20 years ago: Resumed (along with [livejournal.com profile] nwl) publication of a fanhistory-oriented fanzine after a five year dormant spell. Had no idea what it would lead to.

15 years ago: Received (along with [livejournal.com profile] nwl) a Hugo Award that had, 10 minutes previous, been mistakenly awarded to someone else. Truly surreal. Not long before that, on the 25th anniversary year of my high school graduation, went to an alumni dinner of the high school; only one other classmate showed up, and he couldn't recognize me because he was blind.

10 years ago: Wrote the first of a series of "Postcard Diaries of Eastern Europe (http://www.jophan.org/eurodiary/)". While I was there I climbed a mountain in my business suit.

5 years ago: Was the last time [livejournal.com profile] nwl and I have been guests of a convention.

2 years ago: Spent three days in New Orleans, on a business trip, almost exactly one month before the big storm came ashore. Not long after that, lost a business trip to China because of office politics.

1 year ago: On a business trip to India, saw the Taj Mahal.

One week ago: I climbed the Great Wall of China!

Today: Still trying to get uncovered from all the work that piled up in the office while I was in China.

Tomorrow: Looking forward to a nice baked salmon dinner with [livejournal.com profile] nwl. And I will continue to be thankful for all my friends.

20 years ago: met [livejournal.com profile] wild_patience

And we lived happily ever after.

20 years ago: went to what was probably my last-ever Worldcon, in Brighton.
15 years ago: nothing stands out, although I think that may have been the year we visited Petra, in Jordan.
10 years ago: the Tories were evicted from government after 18 years, and we all celebrated mightily. And I started wearing skirts instead of trousers, although there's no connection between the two.
5 years ago: er....
2 years ago: a holiday in Syria and Lebanon, and later that year a cruise in the Adriatic.
A week ago: preparing for the London Freewheel.
Yesterday: a team lunch at which I had a lovely chat with former colleague and beautiful young friend S.
Today: looking forward to a leaving drinks event this evening (at which I will see my beautiful young friend S again).
Tomorrow: cleaning the house from top to bottom in anticipation of the arrival of nephew Scott, who will be house-sitting for us while we're in Sicily.

What a very dull life I have by comparison with yours!

There's a nice memory. I still don't recall much about the intestinal bug, but I can be happy without that.

I don't think I'll participate, though. I'm depressing myself.

I remembered breaking my ankle twenty years ago and gave up.

Heh. Broke my ankle 24 years ago, but 20 years ago had the first renal failure and the big stroke and coma while in the hospital for nine months. The more recent is just as medical.
