If Valleycon had been just a couple of miles west the years I went, I would have picked up North Dakota, too. Oh, well.

Canadian provinces where I have been to SF cons, east to west: Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, and Alberta.

Foreign countries: just England and Scotland so far. For Novacon, Precursor, Intersection, Corflu, and Ploktacon, so that's not too shabby.

The most notable hole here in the US is Colorado. I've spent several weeks running around Colorado and visiting fans over the years (well, decades), but I haven't yet attended an SF convention there. Had a membership to the Colorado Springs Smofcon, but instead ended up in England at a funeral that weekend. With luck, I'll pick up Colorado with a Worldcon trip next year....

Updated to add Louisiana and New Hampshire after remembering NOLA Smofcon and last year's Codclave.

I won't bother, because my map would be really simple. Four states, Colorado, California, New Mexico, and Minnesota. I'm not exactly a fan's fan.

I have four as well -- Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota. But I think I'm a good fan. I just can't afford many cons.

I get 24 states, including ones where you haven't: Idaho (Moscon), Georgia (Worldcon), Colorado and Oklahoma (Mythcon), New Mexico (Heyercon), and - ta-dah - Delaware (Darkovercon).

Can you get Ben to do his map?

Ben and I did his map when we were talking on the phone tonight. He has nine states I don't have: Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Rhode Island. I have two states he doesn't: Nevada and Wisconsin.

I think it's worth keeping track of "states I've been to where I have absolutely no fannish memories." Alas, the number is small...but includes five of the most beautiful: Vermont, Hawaii, Alaska, Wyoming, and Colorado. Soon, I shall lose Colorado...

Since I've been to relatively few conventions, as things fannish go, there are quite a few other unsullied states. And there are only two cases where I've *only* been to the state *for* a con: Minnesota and, oddly enough, Texas.

Hmmm...absolutely no fannish memories? That means driving through Delaware on my way to a convention in Washington, D.C. knocks the state off that list. Likewise Maryland, 'cause I stayed with Steve and Elaine Stiles the last time I was there. And I ended up in West Virginia this summer 'cause I'd stayed with [livejournal.com profile] lauriemann and Jim, but most of my memories of West Virginia are from 1976.

There are a handful of states rich in fannish memories yet with no conventions. Like Colorado and Connecticut.

States totally unsullied by anything resembling fanac during my time there: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyoming.

States only peripherally sullied (in addition to those mentioned above): Iowa, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Dakota, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

British Columbia is the only Canadian province I've visited but not attended a convention in. However, the visit was a very brief one, and it made me late for a fannish party in Seattle, so I have to count it among the sullied.

Curiously enough, I also have just two states I've been to only for conventions or convention-related work: Missouri and Louisiana.

I'm a little surprised you never made it to Iowa for a con, given the many years you lived in Minnesota and given Demicon and Icon are there.

I always meant to throw a little con in South Dakota, but never quite managed it! :-)

Yes, I'm also surprised I haven't been to any Iowa conventions. Seems like I would have picked up at least a couple of them. I always heard good things about both Icon and Demicon.

Thats cool, and also makes me greener with envy.
I would have two states on the whole big map, which would be very grey indeed and not impressive.

I misssd Smofcon in Colorado because it was just before I moved here. Well, assuming I would have gone, anyway.

I'm only coming up with Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, Texas, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Massachusetts for states, and British Columbia and Ontario for provinces. It's only been relatively recently that I've traveled very far for conventions, all of them Corflus so far except for the last Worldcon in Glasgow. Hope to get to Vegas next year for Corflu, and Denver for Worldcon, so that would be two more states.

I've also been to cons in Great Britain, The Netherlands, Australia, Japan, and Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario). I guess I'll be adding Quebec in 2009.

I have been to cons in Manitoba, Alberta, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois (I think Schaumburg is in Illinois), Maryland, Texas, Arizona and New Orleans.

Geri it is sweet you don't list Canada under foreign conventions. I am glad you are comfortable here.

I am not certain of the ettiquete on LiveJournal as it is my first post that isn't anon. This is Don from Winnipeg.

. . . and Winnipeg, Melbourne (not the one in Florida!!), the Hague, Glasgow, Stockholm, and Leicester.
In addition to spending a year coming back from Australia, personal travel extremes include going through San Francisco on the way from Chicago to Miami (Suncon). That got me the Bubonicon flag on the map.
And spending most of a weekend at ploktacon since I was in England that weekend for a wedding anyway.

p.s.

Does having hosted a MNSTF meeting in Texas count for anything?
