So, I'm in N'Awlins this weekend, staying with Guy and Rosy Lillian, who live just on the south edge of City Park, for those who know the city. And working on the Noreascon 4 Souvenir Book, which Guy is editing. I'm doing the design and layout.

The guest bedroom is at the front of their apartment, which is on of three or four apartments in an early 1900s house that's clearly not a South Minneapolis 4-square Victorian, but bears a remarkable similarity to the large houses on Park Avenue and such.

Today just so happened to be when the street was having a block party. The first sign that block parties are Different Here came when Rosy told me the price to attend was $25/person. In Lyndale Neighborhood, everybody just brought some food along for a potluck.

But the best part came later, round about 11pm, long after respectable Minnesota block parties are long over. That's when the live band started here.

I told Guy I was hoping to hear some music while I was in town. Silly me; I thought we'd have to go to a bar or club to find it....

(It's even reasonably good music.)

:)

I really enjoyed meeting Guy and Rosy at Torcon. You make me want to visit them in their natural habitat.

It's good for me that I've resisted actually working on Noreascon (well, I'll be helping set up the SFOHA exhibit but for me that isn't much) but I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Woo. I was just looking at houses for sale in the French Quarter.

K. [no, there's no reason, I was just curious]

You mean he didn't take you to Preservation Hall? It was the one place in the French Quarter where I was able to find traditional New Orleans jazz.

:-( Dagnabit. I knew there'd be an eventual downside moment like this to gafiation, but I didn't know it would entail missing a visit from you to my city completely. I mean, it wasn't even on my radar, and I wonder if you even knew I lived here (or, for that matter, even remember me at all). I don't know a single fannish person here, and only recently encountered [livejournal.com profile] brithistorian on line, but we haven't met. Hell, he probably knows most of my old friends better now than I. Bother. I was quite content in my (mostly) gafiated state and now see what you've done.

Have I missed you completely? Are you gone? If by any miracle you are still here, go to my journal and I'll put in a for-your-eyes-only post with my cell phone number.

If you're looking for a bio of me or [livejournal.com profile] rwl, look in the Torcon Memory book. I couldn't find the one I used last time and not much has changed. This is assuming I'm in the program at all. I filled out the on-line form and haven't heard anything since.
