Sunday night, there was a Sobriety Checkpoint set up on the Saw Mill Parkway just north of Yonkers. They were stopping all traffic in both directions. Lots of flashing lights, lots of cop cars, a line of officers standing alongside the road.

I was the driver; [livejournal.com profile] benyalow was in the passenger seat.

I lowered the driver's window, then rolled slowly past the first two officers as they directed me to stop up at the last one.

When I mentioned that I hadn't had a drink in several weeks, the officer checking my sobriety looked at both of us and said, "Well that isn't any good." She then looked directly at Ben and told him to get me a glass or two of wine more often.

Really. Truly.

I suppose I should count my lucky stars and pocketbook that she didn't write me a ticket for being too sober.

Rather refreshing, actually, to have somebody "official" realize that a glass of booze every once in a while isn't necessarily a bad thing. I am tired of people who think that "a glass of wine with dinner"="driving under the influence".

If you drive soon after that "glass of wine with dinner" then you are "driving under the influence", even if not legally DUI.
