I'm glad to see that the Morris fire north of Azusa is pretty much 11 miles away from don_fitch's home in Covina and even more relieved that it is reportedly 85% contained. I've just read that the vibrant Karen Anderson (Poul's widow) has been evacuated from her home due to the Station fire and is now staying at a hotel in Burbank.

Stay safe, everyone. Evacuating is a good deal wiser than trying to ride out a firestorm in a backyard hottub.

If any fans up needing to rebuild, please let me know. I'll send a starter supply of genuine dust bunnies and fannish kipple, too. Complete with stories for the telling...

I hope Karen's place remains untouched -- I've not seen it and don't know the surroundings, but in general SoCal wildfires take only structures on the edge of, or in, wilderness areas. At least since the local government outlawed (more-or-less) wood-shake & other combustible roofs. Long-established flatland subdivisions, like mine, are reasonably safe -- from fires, that is; earthquakes might be another matter. Of course the wildfire property-damage loss is enormous because foothill houses tend to be _very_ High Class & Expensive. And.... I'm not sure of the precise details, but if the Azusa canyon fire covers much area up around Morris Dam, people in the new subdivisions on the flood-plain just below the mouth of the canyon will be apprehensive about flooding during the next couple of rainy seasons. (I'm far enough away that I'm not sure whether it's "Morris" or "Norris" -- or maybe just old enough to have forgotten ... and yeah, I'll Look It Up, RSN.)
