Four days and five years later
Sep. 11th, 2006 10:21 pmFour days ago, my sister had her right hip replaced. Today she came home from the hospital. She's doing great, and I'm glad to be here lending a helping hand.
casacorona, your comments and advice have proven to be the most consistently useful information I received from any of the joint-replacement veterans I've talked with over the last 3 months, and I've talked with several of them. Thank you!
Five years ago,
coffeeem woke up in a hospital bed. She'd had surgery on one of her broken elbows. A day later, she reported that at first she thought she was hallucinating as a result of the post-surgical pain meds they had her on, that the images and information coming from her roommate's TV couldn't possibly be real.
I went and helped that time, too, staying with Emma the next day once she was home at Adam and Betsy's, serving as a pair of hands she could use in place of the ones she wasn't allowed to.
Like now, helping turned out to be mutually beneficial. Like the best parts of fandom, I feel like I'm getting much, much more from these experiences than I give to them, considerable though that giving may be.
There's more to the story, of course. There always is. That's it for tonight though. Good rest and much more work await my immediate attention. I'm grateful for that, and for so very much more.
