Sure enough, we starved
May. 15th, 2005 02:52 amGoshwow. This wasn't a Geri party. This was a Geri and Elaine and Jack party, with lots of help from Ben and Deb and Mike compounded by the excellent company of a couple dozen fine, fine folks.
And that meant I spent most of my time socializing, punctuated by bursts of party-running work.
Best surprise of the day: Jack Wickwire getting out of his car. HoHo had invited him; I'd invited HoHo. Had I seen Jack in the last decade? If so, only once, and not in this millennium, to the best of our memories. Finestkind.
Layers and layers of most excellent moments will accompany me to sleep tonight. Drug store plungers and hardware store plungers; guess which one looks like it came from the Blowfish catalog? Lilacs and violets and cowslips, oh my. Sunshine All Day! All the sweeter for the rain-filled forecast. Dave Grubbs spent six hours proofreading a NESFA Press book going to print in a couple of days. The Toy Room proved useful for work, too! The balsamic orange garlic marinade did very good things to the venison; many people brought even more good food to starve by. Dale Farmer called to see if we needed anything before driving in from Framingham. "Ice!" Whew. It was the one thing I neglected to pick up during my morning run to Monson for a plunger. Or two.... Dale didn't ask how much, but did hear me use the plural when talking about the coolers we had. He showed up with at least 60 pounds of the stuff, and I think it's more likely it was 80. After so many 5# bags, one tends to lose count. We ended up using all but two of them, which are in the freezer now that there's room. The raspberry cream cheese brownies went over well. Deb's devilled eggs went over even better. They were zippy.
Etc. None of this captures the flavor, or the sheer general enjoyment of the day and the people. It was good. It was very, very good. And in a few hours, I'll get up and make a blintz souffle, using the recipe
carbonel sent my way a few years back. The starving part of it all is far from over yet.
batwrangler is (I hope) asleep on the couch. Sharon Sbarsky is (I hope) asleep on the cot she brought. Baskerville (Joe & Edie's black lab) is sleeping within sight of me. If I get up and move around, so does she.
burningriver has the Flamingo Loft, Joe Siclari and Edie Stern moved into her room for the night. Jack WINOLJ and Ben are also (I hope) asleep. I'm going to toddle upstairs and enter into slumbers of my own.
