I'm feeling both cursed and charmed this morning. Another 4.75 inches of snow fell last night. I walked up to the mailbox as it was falling, enjoying the powdery fluff, the shimmering, glistening flakes as they coated the landscape with diamonds, albeit only for a few hours. Then I was up past dawn, and decided to shovel before sleeping. Fluff it fell, and fluff it remained. Shoveling without sweat doesn't provide much of a workout, but it's just the sort of instant gratification that leaves me rather enjoying this particular white stuff. My brain and budget are both saying, "enough already!" But my heart? My heart asks how I can possibly complain about snow like this.

The white kitchen counters are still clean and flat, too. Between going early and staying late, my Boskone trip stretched into a week away. That helped on the interior clean, flat surface front. Now to finish unpacking the first carload. In the weeks before the convention, I took a fair number of decorations and such to the NESFA clubhouse for Saturday Night Dead in addition to my usual "oh, I'm driving; I can take whatever I think I might want or need" school of packing.

I would have been able to bring more of the decorations home on the first trip if I hadn't stuffed the graveyard into the back hatch. Y'know, it's not often one has the opportunity to say such things. For those who weren't there, one of the carnival games was a graveyard ring toss. It didn't have the cachet of the Hugo ring toss at the Worldcon, but it fit our Vampires at Mardi Gras theme better. During clean-up Saturday night, we removed the crosses and Star of David (and the styrofoam pieces holding them in place), then folded the tarp so the fake grass and, more importantly, genuine peat moss were on the inside. Then we enclosed the entire thing in huge garbage bags, which we taped together. Given the nature of peat moss, it wasn't likely to work for long, but it does seem to have held up until after the graveyard left the hotel, which was the vital part of the process. That bit of unpacking will likely wait until spring, when the peat moss can be put to some use. But I'm hoping to unpack the other boxes and bins well before then.

Famous last words....

Ten Things meme, with thanks to [livejournal.com profile] smofbabe for the trigger. After two weeks of not being able to think of more than one, it proved surprisingly difficult to limit this list to ten )

The next party is the weekend of May 14, 2005; hope you can make it.
