Return to a temporary state of being

Clean, flat surfaces. They never last, but I find them extraordinarily satisfying during the brief interludes I am able to achieve and maintain them. On Thursday, I achieved a kitchen full of clean, flat surfaces, and Friday evening I stretched the visual delight through the eating area that serves as my dining room. It involved less surface area than the kitchen, but clearing the dining table (and chairs) was the greater accomplishment. The oldest of the kipple dated back to my return from Smofcon at the beginning of December.

It will be a fine weekend indeed if tomorrow night I can report similar progress in my office. I'll be at least somewhat surprised if I do — the piles on my desk and other flat office surfaces are minuscule compared to the stacks that built up in past years. My tolerances for such stacks are lower now that my office is in the middle of my living area, but any papers that don't need a ruler to be measured really don't qualify as a problem, and that's where most of the current piles stand. Still, it would be nice. Maybe I'll tackle the top of the filing cabinet tonight, and see what progress I can make from there….

May your weekend be filled with visual delight. Your home, too. And if you want to write about it, that would be mighty fine, too.
